# María Isabel Díaz Lago

**Date of birth:** July 4, 1964

**Categories:** Arts, Actress, film, theater

Graduated in the specialty of acting from the Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba (ISA), she would be 16 years old when she began acting in the theater group of the pre-university school Antonio Guiteras in Havana. The idea, which initially had brought together two or three people, brought together, among others, the now singer-songwriter Carlos Varela, the rocker Tanya Rodríguez, the actor René de la Cruz (son), the actress Daysi Quintana, the singer Mayra de la Vega, the theater scholar Laura Fernández and the theater director Víctor Varela.

She has worked in film, television and theater in works such as "Galileo Galilei", directed by Vicente Revuelta and "Donde crezca el amor" by Armando Suárez del Villar.

She was still studying at the ISA when she was called by filmmaker Orlando Rojas for the leading role in the film "Una novia para David" (1985). Her film debut was followed by other films such as "Papeles secundarios", also by Rojas, and "Hello Hemingway", by Fernando Pérez, and for four years, she worked in the weekly television program "La hora de las brujas".

Much later, having become the first Cuban "Almodóvar girl", María Isabel returned to La Habana in December 2006 for the presentation of the film "Volver" by Pedro Almodóvar, at the XVI Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano.

Her most recent work has been as the protagonist of the Vis a vis series on Antena 3.
